Original French Armoires

My latest commission for Lady Sherry Scott of Tyringham hall in Cuddington. What an absolute pleasure and no pressure? repaint and repair the damage on these amazing french armoire doors.

I really have taken my time and actually enjoyed being artistic and creative. I started layering up the colours so that when I got to the final stage of distressing and waxing I would have the previous colours come through.

The first layer I painted in black as you can see from the scratches the whole piece is undercoated in a black paint. I then patched over with a light base colour. This picture shows all the touch up spots to be matched. This difficulty was getting colour matches as deluxe don't match to a chalk paint and also the armoire wouldn't fit in their match machine lol.

Just below are some before and after photos of certain areas of damage and filling.

I ended up repainting the whole armoire in the end just because the patch up areas would have been different and stood out. I decided to repaint all areas and then distress back to original patina in areas. I then waxed and followed with an antique wax over the whole thing.

I am so pleased with the result there was a lot of work involved and worry along the way. All I can say is be brave and have faith in yourself, I'm so glad I took this project on I really enjoyed it and felt very privilege'd to be part of this armoires history.
